Hi I was sorry to have missed your gig …

Hi

I was sorry to have missed your gig at the Cobden last Friday, particularly when everyone outside the club was talking afterwards about how good it was. (I was the guy at the bottom of the stairs running the door for the Portobello Film Festival launch on the top floor, so I could hear bits of what was going on.)

Very pleased to have seen your set at Carnival and it went down really well. I don’t think many of the audience were born when Mick and colleagues played the Rainbow in 1977 - but they didn’t half pogo to ‘Should I Stay.’

I went to my normal quiet spot in Powis Mews for both your set and for Gaz and it was totally packed - and this wasn’t just the queue for the men’s portaloos further down the mews.

We are starting the Portobello Film Festival today (Thursday) - it runs for the next couple of weeks so hope to see you guys along for some of our shows.

    Hi Geoff,

Yes I remember you doing the door at Cobdens. Thanks for your kind comments. I was a really busy Carnival this year!

I’ll definitely try to make it to some of your shows. It’s a bit embarrassing, but in all these years I never have done and it’s exactly the sort of thing I should be writing about.

  4. Brazil Carnival Lover Says:

    Hello Scribe!

First of all congratulations for your diary and also for promoting Carnival abroad. I am the editor of Brazil Carnival Ooah! and a great lover of the amazing festivity in Brazil.

Incredible how the format there is different!! Here, our street Carnaval has thankfully :) been revitalized over the years. Carnaval in Brazil is famous for the samba-schools, but now a days, what really cooks is Street Carnival groups/bands. Over 450 street bands / groups called “blocos de rua” reveled in 2010. Each of them with their own identity, flag, and type of music. This year we had 3 million people reveling in Rio´s streets! Yes, 3 million and we beat Salvador ( from Bahia ) previous record of 2.5 million.

The good thing is all the partying is free, unlike Bahia too! I invite you to come here and visit our party, which each year is getting betting and better ( the street carnival I say ).

We could think about a cultural partnership exchange!

Cheers and keep promoting this true art and form of expression!
