The Scribe of Notting Hill

Why am I setting up this site? Well a few reasons actually. Firstly I love Notting Hill. I’ve lived in various places the area for much of my life and my father was brought up on Oxford Gardens, where my Grandparents lived till they died.

My great uncle left us four properties in the area (sadly we sold them all in the mid 70s for a song. Nobody knew back then what was going to happen to property prices!) and my great grandmother owned a house on Pembridge Villas way back at the start of the last century.

But mainly, I started a blog a few months ago documenting the restoration of my kitchen and realise that I had a lot more to write about than just refurbishing 1950s kichen units. Most of it to do with bands I’m involved with, particularly Rotten Hill Gang, and people I know.

This blog is my own personal diary of life in the area, as well as telling the story of Notting Hill and of the characters that go to make it up. It will build over time.

And at the end of August I’ll be writing my own report on Notting Hill Carnival. One man can only get so far around the vast, crowded festival that it has become, but Rotten Hill Gang are playing on Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues stage on Talbot Road outside The Globe, so I’ll probably be able to get some photos from a unique perspective.

Love,

The Scribe of Rotten Hill™
